A world class fly fisherman, fly caster, and fly tier, Bob has taught countless people how to fish and cast with flies. Episode 43: Bone Fishing Cozumel

Listen Now

In this episode we interview Carlos Vega owner/operator of Aquarius Travel Sport Fishing in Cozumel Mexico, about the many opportunities it offers fly fishers who may be on a cruise or staying at one of the resorts on this spectacular western Caribbean island. Bone fishing is one of the most challenging and rewarding fly fishing experiences available. Episode 42: Center-Pinning

Listen Now
In this episode we highlight an increasingly poplular technique called center-pinning.

"To use a centre-pin, one casts to a slightly upstream position and then follows the float downstream while the water current (because of hydraulic pressure against the float) pays out line directly off the reel. Occasionally, it may be necessary to slightly brake, feather, or apply slight resistance to the spool rim to slow a drift down. This feathering of the spool results in your float “trotting” through the swim. Ideally, you are aiming for the offering to be the very first thing that the prey sees. And you want to slow the offering to subsurface current speeds so that it is presented as natural as possible.

When the float goes down, thrusts upward, or tilts side to side it is time to set the hook. If the depth of the offering is correct, these float movements are a direct result of a fish strike. When in doubt set the hook!"

Episode 41: The Guiding Life

Listen Now
In this episode we visit with a group of local guides to discuss what it's really like to be a fishing guide. I think most of us have flirted with the idea of becoming a guide at sometime in our fly fishing careers. Wouldn't it be great to make a living doing something you love? After listening to these guys talk maybe it will help you decide if you have what it takes.
